I’m Bored Jar

Are your children always saying their bored? Give them something to do these holidays! Make an I’m Bored Jar.
Our boys were starting to say “I’m Bored” after a week of holidays, so I we made an I’m Bored jar. Every time they started saying I’m bored, I would send them to the jar. Now they just head to the jar.
To make the jar, I cut out a piece of purple card (scrapbooking paper) and glued it onto the jar.  It is a plastic Vitamin C jar, so it won’t break. I have didn’t want to use a glass jar as it would probably have been dropped or knocked off the table and broken by now.
The boys helped paint some paddle pop sticks. We chose lighter colours so that we were able to see the writing on them. You could also cover them with contact or paper if you wanted too.
When the paint was dry, I wrote on them with a black permanent marker.
Some of the activities I wrote were:
  • Draw a picture blindfolded
  • Write a story about a bird
  • Write a letter to Grandma
  • Draw a car racing track for your cars
  • Read a book
  • Watch a movie
  • Have a picnic in the backyard
  • Make a treasure map
  • Have a treasure hunt
  • Build a lego city
  • Make up your own play
  • Paint a picture
  • Make paper airplanes
  • Play with your bubbles
  • Water the plants
  • Empty the dishwasher
  • Dust 3 rooms
  • Make a cubby house

Our jar is only half full at the moment, so we can add or take the paddle pop sticks as we please.

Have you got any more ideas that could be used?
